Auxiliary Squigs

So, these 2 little guys consistently show up in groups of squigs on Ebay or elsewhere online.

Astute viewers will recognize them as Chaos Familiars from the late 80's. Initially I just assumed folks were padding out their squig swarms with similar minis. I recently found an auction for a sealed blister of Tyranid squigs which contained the Beastling. So were the packing trolls filling out the line with familiers? I may pick up Jaw for inclusion in the swarm but Beastling dose not seem to really fit with the others.

Squig check list!

I am focusing on the old metal squigs for the time being, although there are some nice plastic ones as part of more recent models. They are all fun sculpts from a time when GW took itself less seriously. Sadly like much of the silly ork madness of early 40K, squigs seem to have fallen by the wayside, at least as far as models go, relegated to accessory bits for boss kits.
Anyway here is my check-list.
This is the full Tyranid range with the big squigs. I already have Big Squig 1 so I might as well go for the whole works. there is no reason they cant be used for ork squigs too!

I do have squig 11 but he was painted and glued in to a diorama back in the early 90's, so I will need another one for this project. Squig 6 has been purchased but not shipped yet. He gets checked off upon arrival.

Finding them on Ebay is not too hard, Finding them at a reasonable price, not so much. I am hesitant to pay ten bucks for a mini the size of my thumbnail, especially when the seller wants another $15 bucks in shipping.

Squig 5

Being the 4th squig to be painted.
that's all the finished beasties at this point. I hope to get at least one more done over the weekend.

Squig 3

Third paint job, Dragon Blue base. I will call him Babe the Blue Squig

Squig 8

Second painted squig. Starting to remeber how to blend. 20+ year old Citadel Blood Red base.

Squig 4

First painted squig. He was started sometime in the early 90's. Base colors: Polly S Fantasy Gnoll Fur(?) and Slime Green. Sadly my Slime Green finally dried up, and Gnoll Fur is long gone. Washed with Citadel shades and highlighted with various paints mixed to match the base colors.

I hear all the kids have "Old Hammer" blogs these days so i have decided to start one following my current painting project: 40K squigs.
The purpose is to keep track of my collecting endeavor and show off my painting progress. I will also link various squig related resources as well.
Obviously the range is not large enough to support sustained blogging so I may use it for whatever painting project comes along.
